Introduction

About this Manual

This volume, ORCA and SDT Getting Started, contains a guide that will assist you in getting familiar with the ORCA¹ and SDT environment. The volume is divided into two physical parts (binders).

We start by giving an introduction to ORCA and SDT and the supported languages. Then follows a number of chapters with hands-on tutorials on how to use the tools included in ORCA and SDT, including a first look at object-oriented analysis and design. These tutorials use the same simple example (DemonGame), and can be followed without any previous knowledge of ORCA or SDT.

The remaining chapters contain a number of more advanced tutorials on how to use the SOMT method, CORBA integration, and Cmicro targeting in practice. In the SOMT and CORBA tutorials it is assumed that you have studied the SOMT Methodology Guidelines.

All tutorials build on the knowledge gained in the previous tutorials, so you should practice them in the order they are included.
