Using the On-Line Help

The Telelogic Tau on-line help is a duplication of the printed documentation. In addition, the on-line help also includes the information that you are now reading and an index of menu choices in Telelogic Tau.

You access the on-line help by selecting menu choices in Help menus and pop-up menus and by clicking Help buttons in Telelogic Tau dialogs.

How to configure the on-line help is described in Customizing the On-Line Help.

The entire documentation is also available as PostScript files on the Telelogic Tau installation CD.

Searching the On-Line Help

Searching the Entire On-Line Help

  1. Select Search from the Help menu of a Telelogic Tau tool.
  2. The Help Search dialog will be opened.

  3. Specify a search pattern. The pattern may contain wildcards similar to file name patterns used on UNIX:

        *

Matches zero or more characters.

"tele*c" finds "Telelogic" but also "... stateless. It therefore makes program re-entrance ..."

        ?

Matches any single character.

"tele?????" finds "Telelogic" and "telephone" but not "telecom".

        \

Matches the following character literally.

"\*" finds `*'.

  1. Optionally, you can make the search case sensitive.
  2. Click OK.

  3. The search will start and a dialog gives you information about the progress. In this dialog, you may also abort the search.

When the search is finished, the result will be displayed. This is also done if you have aborted the search. All paragraphs containing the search pattern are included as hyper-text links, in combination with the title of the corresponding chapter.

  4. Click a link to go to the source of the text.

Help Documents Searched

The file helplist.txt in the help directory in the Telelogic Tau installation, lists the HTML files that will be scanned during a search. You may edit this file to exclude filenames, but make sure to make a backup copy of the file first. You can also place the file in your home directory.

Searching the Current Document

  1. Select a menu choice for find/search in the current document:
  2. In the dialog that will be opened, type the text that you want to find in the text field.

  3. You may also want to change the other options.

  4. Click Find Next/Search.

  5. If the text string is found in the document, it will be marked.

In Telelogic Tau Help Viewer, the most recent text string will be remembered and you can search for it again, without having to open the dialog. To do this:

A corresponding menu choice also exists in Netscape Navigator: Find Again in the Edit menu.

In the Telelogic Tau Help Viewer, the dialog also contains the Strings menu, where the previous text strings are saved.

Printing the On-Line Help

Printing HTML Files

You can print the on-line help from Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer. To do this:

  1. Select Print from the File menu.
  2. In the dialog, change the settings if necessary and click OK.

Both Netscape Navigator and Internet Explorer also provides page setups where you may change the layout somewhat before you print.

Printing PostScript Files

PostScript files that are identical to the printed Telelogic Tau documentation, are included on the Telelogic Tau CD-ROM in the subdirectory /pscript/. In /pscript/, there is one subdirectory for each of the paper formats: A4, A5, and US Letter.

As the files may have somewhat cryptic names, please see the README file (in the same directory) which lists all the file names and the corresponding chapter names.

To print the PostScript files, you either use a PostScript viewer, or the command lpr (which is supplied with Telelogic Tau in Windows).
